WVLO is a non-equity community theater company performing at the Saratoga Civic Theater in Saratoga, CA. All cast positions are volunteer and are not paid. BIPOC, indigenous, neurodiverse, and physically diverse artists are encouraged to audition. We welcome and encourage actors of every race, ethnicity, gender, identity, age, body type, and orientation to audition with WVLO. You MUST be at least 18 years of age to audition, with the exception of the part of Theo.

Invitation callbacks will be held at the Saratoga Civic Theater on Sunday, November 10, from 6:30pm to 10pm, and Sunday, November 17, from 9am to noon. If you are invited to the in-person callback, you will be notified of specific dates and times in a callback email.

Please indicate any availability conflicts for the callbacks in the form below. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your assigned in-person audition time to check in. You will also receive an email with any callback materials required.

Pippin Character Descriptions

Other than the specifics for the Leading Player, we are blessed to have a script where casting can be open to actors of color, gender expression and identity, disability, and neurodiversity.

LEADING PLAYER
The ultimate “ring leader.” Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through their own story and tries to intervene at the end. Excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience. Searching for Black/African-American actors for this role.

PIPPIN
Our story's young and confused protagonist. They are longing to find their purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontented. Eventually finds love and meaning in life with Catherine and Theo.

CHARLES
(PLEASE NOTE: This role has already been cast, but we are searching for an understudy.) Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. They wear their years with great pride.

Pippin's half-sibling. Vain, self assured, and is proud to be their father’s ideal of a soldier. Unhealthily attached to their mother, Fastrada.

Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, they are both sexy and smart. Skilled at using their sexual appeal to benefit them and their child, Lewis.

ENSEMBLE
The players comprise the ever wandering cursed troupe of actors who find people like Pippin to tempt, entertain, and cajole in order for that person to choose the grandest finale of all time - to choose greatness. Searching for seven strong singers/dancers who may also understudy other roles within the production.

ANY Role Leading Player Pippin Charles Lewis Fastrada Berthe Catherine Theo Ensemble I would accept an understudy role for any of the roles I’ve listed. I would accept an understudy role only if I have some (1-2) guaranteed performances. I would accept multiple understudy roles. I would accept a role with another actor understudying my role. I would accept a role where on some (1-2) of the performance dates, an understudy will be performing my role. I would accept being double-cast in a role (5 performances as role, 5 performances as ensemble).

An understudy for a role is expected to be on standby to act in the capacity of the role during the rehearsal process and is called whenever the principal is called. The understudy should expect to learn all blocking, choreo, and music with minor adjustments designed to fit the manner in which the understudy portrays the character. The understudy also fills in for the principal should the latter be absent during the rehearsal process or a run of the show.

Rehearsals for PIPPIN will begin January 5, 2025. We will have several Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoons, with evenings Monday through Thursday evenings. All cast members are called for Load In on Saturday, February 22, 2025, and Strike on Sunday, April 6, 2025. TECH WEEK is March 9, 2025, through March 14, 2025 (preview). Performances are Friday evenings (03/21, 03/28, 04/04); Saturday evenings (03/15, 03/22, 04/05); Saturday matinee (03/29); and Sunday matinees (03/16, 03/23, 03/30).
